  • To Support Environmental Sustainability, Polaris Bank, NCF Launch Tree-planting Campaign in Rivers

As part of a larger initiative to promote environmental sustainability and fight carbon emissions, Polaris Bank and the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF) have started a tree-planting program in Rivers State.

The project was held at the Gokana Local Government Area’s Bodo City Girls Secondary School.

The bank’s broader commitment to sustainable environmental policies includes this project.

Mr. Ejike Aroh, the Garrison Branch’s Business Development Manager, addressed on behalf of Mr. Raphael Abiaziem, the Divisional Head for South-South, on behalf of Polaris Bank at the ceremony.

He underlined that the program complements the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and demonstrates the bank’s commitment to its environmental objectives.

Abiazem said: “This effort goes beyond simply planting trees. It is about protecting our natural environment, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting awareness about climate action.

“By introducing fruit-bearing and economically valuable trees, we aim to help communities build resilience, enhance food availability, and rehabilitate damaged ecosystems.”

The NCF Field Officer, Mr. Alex Jorbedom, went on to discuss the long-term advantages of fruit tree planting.

In addition to bearing nutritious fruits, he said, the trees will provide shade, serve as organic windbreaks, and improve the health of the locals and students.

“Our goal is to plant 500 trees at this school, including species such as avocado and native pear.

“Each tree has been protected with mesh to ensure survival, and we plan to return for follow-up visits to educate students on their importance and encourage active care,” Jorbedom said.
